This is not my favorite photo that I shot from the Vols’ game at Mississippi State last week, but it has become sports blog fodder since the game. At least three sports blogs I have seen today used this image with their posts.
None of them gave proper credit and certainly did not have permission to use this copyrighted photo. Two of the blogs stated that this was taken after the game, which is incorrect. The photo caption under this photo on www.govolsxtra.com clearly states that it was taken before the game. I digress.
Mississippi State’s locker rooms are situated a level above the playing field. Players and coaches descend the ramp on foot, or in a wheelchair in this case, before taking the field. Coach Dooley was escorted by this Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper as UT Athletics Department photographer Donald Page, background, photographed the scene.
Coach Dooley underwent hip surgery earlier in the week and coached the game from the skybox.
Usually we try to capture the coach on the field, but in this case he was so far away in the skybox that it was nearly impossible to get a photo of him. Moments like this one before the game had to suffice as our only art of Coach Dooley from the game.
