Forgive Us Our Lens

Yesterday was an interesting day to say the least. The fourth hour of the “Today Show” was on “The Hill” at the University of Tennessee campus for a live broadcast. It was the typical hoopla surrounding such an event with all attention centered on the “stars” of the show Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. That was until a real star surprisingly showed up — Pat Summitt.
The crowd, until then, had been screaming for attention from either of the co-hosts or the guy operating the cameras. All that attention suddenly turned to the love of this town. The ear-piercing chants began, “We Back Pat,We Back Pat…” It was good for the heart to see sincere attention paid to someone who actually earned it.  - Michael Patrick
