Oftentimes while hiking we are so focused on making the next step that we miss what is going on above us. Here is a collection of photos of trees and canopies I photographed while covering the Hikes of the Month.

Above you will see a collection of 10 photos from 10 consecutive Hikes of the Month beginning in January 2009. In celebration of Knoxville News Sentinel writer Morgan Simmons and I completing our 50th Hike of the Month, I will be posting a set of 10 photos each day until Friday, April 5, 2013, when our 50th hike is published.

Technically I have only hiked 49 of them while Morgan has hiked all of them. In 2009, photo intern Brianna Scroggins hiked and photographed the Laurel-Snow Hike of the Month which features the boys jumping off the rocks.

These photos were made with a 4x5 view camera during the game between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Kentucky Wildcats Feb. 16, 2013 at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn.

I wanted to shoot part of the game atmosphere using the 4x5 camera. I used Fujifilm 4x5 Neopan 100 Acros Black and White negative film. The first two photos were shot using an exposure of a couple of seconds. The second two photos were shot using an exposure of 1/15th of a second. I tried to fire our arena strobe set at the same time of the exposure but it is difficult to tell if that worked out.  —- Adam Brimer
